Notes: CUNY IT Conference 2024 - YC

The annual CUNY IT Conference this year concluded, and I wanted to share some of my notes and takeaways.

This year's theme was 'Advancing CUNY: Intentional Connections & Smart Collaborations.' Most presentations focused on automation and tools for efficiency and collaboration, rather than AI. During the panel discussions, it was emphasized that the CUNY IT Conference is intended for everyone—faculty, staff, and administrators—not just those in IT.

The panelists discussed their work and initiatives related to collaboration and AI. An interesting question raised during the conversation was the challenge of building consensus among diverse perspectives, particularly regarding various collaboration and AI tools, implementation strategies, decision-making approaches, and on funding. The discussion ultimately emphasized the need to align efforts and focus to better support student success.

Some more ideas and takeaways:

It was really nice to hear and experience what others are working on in these conferences, and as expressed, CUNY IT Conference is for all.

In this year's sessions, it was bit of surprice how many times Power Automate was brought up. I was also unfamiliar with it last year this time. Along with Power BI, the Microsoft suite in general have been used widely as effective collaborative tools.

This site is built with Power Pages, another Power App within the Microsoft Suite. Similar to the CS/IT students, I did not know what license from CUNY on Microsoft Suite that we have until recently and wanted to say that we are licensed by CUNY to these Power Apps. Using Power Pages, there's no need for a server, domain, hosting of storage, to publish a public site such as this one in a relatively short short short amount of time, and no coding is needed.

Its been fruitful experimenting and making this site, I hope you can also find something of interest, or of use, from the information and the session notes! I'm happy to provide more information or answer any questions.

And, Anderson won a raffle prize!

Have a great weekend all! - YC
